Strong team riding at Thruxton season opener

There was a large turnout from Venta riders at the first Spring races at Thruxton today.

In the 4th cat race Tim Higgs was the highest placed Venta finisher, with Adrian Baxter, Jonny Moss, Matt Galante, and Richard New producing strong rides.

We saw a great team performance in the 3rd cat race. A bit of wind and a welcome increase in the race duration made for hard racing despite the huge bunch. Thom Hayward, Ollie Winwood, and Jamie Franklin were active off the front of the bunch in the first hour, at one point Jamie and Ollie combining in a strong group of six that didn’t quite have the cohesion to get a significant advantage.

With two laps to go the team gathered mid bunch and planned to lead out our U23s. James Fox wound it up into the headwind, taking us to the front of the bunch, Jamie kept it strung out before Ollie Beresford went full gas up the final drag, delivering Owen Lewis and Ollie Winwood into the final chicane in prime position. Despite his earlier antics, Ollie held on for 2nd. Commiserations to Thom Hayward, who came down and bust his collarbone, and to the impressive lone breakaway rider who we reeled in with 200m to go.
