May 2021 results and overall GC position
This month came and went with a huge mixture of weather conditions, mostly unfavourable for making attempts at the May segment of the month challenge.
In the women’s competition, Joanne Clarke took another top spot and the full 15 points that go with it, posting a time of 02:23. The only other women’s competition effort was made by Vanda Kyselicova, who took the 12 points for second place, with a time of 02:56.
The women’s GC competition sees Joanne consolidate her top spot with 57 points. The other three participants are some way behind at this stage, with Izzy Wild on 15 points, Vanda Kyselicova on 12points and Anna Turgoose on 10 points.
In the men’s competition, 19 riders who’ve signed up to the VCV 2021 segment of the month Strava club, had braved the weather to see what time they could post.
Nick Barber took the longstanding KoM from Bertie Wooster with a sensational time of 01:42. Ben Gibbs came a decent second place with a time of 01:48. Martin Evans, Christopher Purver and James Coker were inseparable, all posting identical time of 01:50 each. Just 11 seconds separated 6th to 10th place after that.
In the men’s GC competition, James Cocker hangs on to his lead with 61 points, whilst Ben Gibbs has gained a little ground with 54 points. Christopher Purver still sits in third place on 43 points but may be feeling a little nervous as Nick Barber is now close on his heels on 40 points after his top spot this month.
June’s arrival signifies the Queen stage for the year’s challenge, bringing with it the prospect of double points on offer. We find ourselves back on the slopes of Old Winch hill – with the identical stage as last year offering a number of competitors the chance to settle some unfinished business.
