June 2021 SoTM Results and Overall GC Positions

The double points on offer from June’s Queen stage has resulted in a shake-up of positions in the GC for both the Men’s and Women’s competition. The slopes of Old Winch hill saw a few brave souls battle it out over four and a half miles of leg burning terrain, with the weather being unhelpfully mixed over the course of this month.

In the women’s competition, Jools May took full advantage to claim the 30 points on offer for first place with a time of 19:25. In second place, Vanda Kyselicova claimed the 24 points on offer with a close performance, posting a time of 20:17.

As a consequence, the women’s GC table sees some significant changes. Joanne Clarke retains the top spot on 57 points, however Vanda Kyselicova has leap frogged straight into second place on 36 points. Jools May now holds third spot on 30 points and Izzy Wild has been relegated to fourth place on 15 points. Anna Turgoose holds fifth spot with 10 points.

In the men’s competition, last year’s champion Ben Gibbs took top spot with a quick time of 13:50. Hot on his heels, Nick Barber was just beaten into second place with a super close time of 13:54. James Cocker rounded off the third podium placing with a time of 14:13. Aaron Cooper and Martin Evans took fourth and fifth place respectively, being the only other riders to duck under the 15-minute mark.

In the men’s GC competition, the double points on offer this month has made quite a difference to the standings. Ben Gibbs has now moved to the head of the table on 84 points. James Cocker remains close on his heels on 81 points. In third place, Nick Barber is some way off the front two on 64 points. In fourth position with 47 points, Christopher Purver is a reasonable distance ahead of Martin Evans, who sits in fifth spot on 37 points.

With four months remaining, there is still all to play for as we move into the Summer proper, with July’s segment. We move a little closer to Winchester this month, with riders being tested by Rodfield Lane climb.
