September’s segment sees us return closer to home, with a tough climb out of Winchester city. The segment begins just beyond the mini roundabout, that divides the junction between the High Street and Chesil Street, a few yards up the initial lower reaches of St Giles Hill.

You climb the first short part of Magdalen Hill, that almost immediately takes a left turn, steepening towards the looming sharp right hand turn that is marked with Joyce Gardens on your left. Press on to the next corner and as you pass Blue Ball Hill road on your left. You round the corner to then face the remainder of Magdalen Hill as it passes the row of Victorian terraces on your left.

This will be the hardest part of the climb, so you will need to dig deep to keep your momentum against the gradient until passing Baring Road on your right, that marks the point at which the gradient starts to ease off and Magdalen Hill transitions into Alresford Road, with the final run-in to the finish line, situated just ahead of the junction with Winnall Manor Road.

September's Segment Profile

This will be a fast segment with sub 2-minute times being required to get anywhere near the top of the leader board.

Hazards to look out for include a sub-standard road surface near the very end of the segment, close to the junction with Winnall Manner Road as well as parked cars on the hill outside of peak hours.

Please remember to adhere to whatever the prevailing rules are around social distancing and obey the rules of the road at all times.
