April’s Sprint segment travelling South towards Kilmeston proved challenging, with close sprinting competition over the course of the month.

In the women’s open category competition, only two riders set an effort on the segment this month. Isla Hoult took her fourth monthly win in a row, with a time of 1:03. Close on her heels, Annie Dixey took second spot with a time of 01:08.

In the men’s open category competition, Oscar Hoult won again, this time with a new KoM of 43s for this segment. Matt Gilmour and Bobby Buenfeld shared the spoils for 2nd place with matching times of 48 seconds.

In the men’s senior category competition, Jim Cascarini put down a marker by setting a winning time of 52 seconds that that was comfortably clear of the rest of the bunch. Martin Evans took second place with a time of 58 seconds and Alastair Mucklow was just 1 second behind in third place on 59 seconds.

In the men’s open category GC, Matt Gilmour and Oscar Hoult now share the top of the table, both having accumulated 54 points apiece. Bobby Buenfeld has jumped back into third spot on 38 points.

In the women’s open category GC, Isla Hoult and Annie Dixey remain in first and second places, on 60 and 46 points respectively. Judit D remains in third position with 22 points.

Many congratulations to Oscar and Isla, who again win a free hot drink and slice of cake from South Downs Social café, who continue to graciously support and sponsor our club’s annual segment of the month competition for the two open categories.

Also, congratulations to Jim, who wins a £10 voucher for use at Bike-X in Winchester, who are our sponsors for this first year of the men’s senior category of our club’s annual segment of the month competition.

May’s segment is the TT stage for this year’s competition. A long mostly flat segment with a small kicker in the middle at a length of nearly two and half miles on the Westbound lane from Northington. Click the link here to take a look at May's segment:
