August’s segment with its alternative route up Old-Winch hill failed to attract many efforts from club riders, perhaps reflective of the summer holiday season and continuing good weather.

In the women’s competition, Franie Ng once again took first place with a time of 3:57. Last year’s women’s champion Vanda Kyselicova claimed second place with a time of 04:39. Annie Dixey closed off the podium for this month with a time of 04:51. A new name featured this month in the women’s competition, as we welcome Katie Nurse who hit fourth spot with a time of 05:10.

In the men’s competition, things were pretty close at the top. Michael Wise took the first position with an excellent time of 03:27. Only 1 second behind him in second place was Martin Evans posting a time of 03:28. Dave Morris closed out the men’s podium in third place with a time of 03:35.

In the Women’s GC competition, Annie Dixey holds her lead on 118 points. The gap to second place has been closed a little with Franie Ng now on 111 points. Vanda Kyselicova solidifies her third place on 94 points.

In the Men’s GC competition, things have become super close at the top. It is no longer mathematically possible for the first and second placed riders in the men’s table to be overhauled, so the GC championship comes down to a straight shootout between Dave Morris and Michael Wise. Dave just about hangs on to first place by the finest of margins on 96 points, with Michael right behind on 95 points.

Further down the table, Matt Gilmour stays in third place on 61 points, with Martin Evans on his shoulder, in fourth place on 51 points. James Locke and Dan Mahony a not far behind on 44 and 41 points respectively.

Many congratulations for August to Michael and Franie, who both win the complimentary hot drink and cake from the South Downs Social café.

September’s segment brings us closer to home to the punishing slopes of Northington Hill, for a short and sharp hill climb challenge.
