We kicked this year off with a segment running the length of the familiar and well-known route along Down Farm Lane, travelling Westbound from Kingsworthy.

In the women’s competition, three familiar names from last year’s competition were keen to set out their stall for 2023. Taking first place, Franie Ng set a quick time of 05:56. Close on Franie’s heels, Annie Dixey came in second with a time of 06:06. Rounding out the podium, Vanda Kyselicova took third spot with a time of 07:16.

In the men’s competition, 14 riders took the opportunity to seek some early season GC points, which could prove invaluable come October.

Oscar Hoult swooped in on the last day of the month, to claim a well-earned first place with a blistering time of 04:40. Past competitor Jim Cascarini returned to the segment of the month competition in style, setting a solid time of 04:57 to nab second place. William Hart closed out the third podium spot with a time of 05:11.

With this being the first month of the year, the current GC positions all match the aforementioned results.

Many congratulations to Franie and Oscar who both win a free hot drink and slice of cake from South Downs Social café who have again graciously agreed to support and sponsor our club’s annual segment of the month competition.

February’s segment takes us back to Rodfield Lane, which was last visited by the competition in July 2021. This is a fast climb that will see riders hitting their VO2-Max power zone if they want to set a competitive time.
