Sunday Club RidesStarting from the 26 October all Sunday Club rides will start at the slightly later time of 0900 from the Winchester Hotel car park. There will be a minimum of two rides, one averaging 15mph, the other 17mph. Both will include stops for coffee. Both will run at the pace of the slowest rider: no-one will be dropped.More leaders neededRunning more rides requires more people to step forward to lead them. For those who haven't done this before we'll make sure you have a 'buddy' to help prepare and lead the first one. It isn't as hard as it might seem. We are re-introducing a Ride Leaders List which we will circulate to all we feel could lead a ride, as well as those who already have. Simply choose a date which suits you and then send a .gpx of your proposed route to email@example.com cc'd firstname.lastname@example.org. This will allow us to upload the route to the website. If you subsequently find you can no longer ride that day then that's fine but it will be up to you to find someone to swap dates with.Group etiquetteAs the membership has grown, the size of the groups has increased. We will sometimes need to split into smaller groups to keep everyone safe (another reason to increase the number of leaders we can call on). Club growth has also meant that many people riding together aren't familiar with each other. While building up trust in one another takes time there are some ground rules for group riding which we should all be aware of and sign up to. There is a very good article on the club web site, covering both social riding and harder, training rides. The Sunday rides are social rides. That means they should be fun for everyone, are not a place for racing and that we look after our club mates. Here is a link:And here is a summary:By participating on this organised group ride, you agree to:
- be responsible for those riders in front, alongside and behind you
- point out obstacles in the path of riders behind you
- warn of vehicles which will be passing closely in front or behind the group
- warn of approaching changes of speed and direction
- pass verbal messages up and down the group
- ride in close formation or single file as directed to assist other road users to pass safely
- ride at a speed consistent with the group and advise the group leader if riders are struggling with the pace
- ride in a manner appropriate for a group in the terrain and surroundings
- avoid dramatic changes of speed or direction and leave appropriate space between you and the rider in front
- advise the group leader of any elements of group riding you are unclear of

Tuesday Evening RidesTuesday's rides leave from The Winchester Hotel and Spa at 7pm.There will be three rides:
Tuesday rides will end at the Winchester Club in Worthy Lane for a drink and a chat.Routes are detailed on the website. We are looking for leader volunteers for the Social Rides. Please will you offer your services by sending an email to email@example.com.
- The Fast and Medium groups will do a designated Winter Route (29 miles) and include riding through and off. Fast group set off 1 minute ahead.
- A Social Ride will do a designated Winter Route (26 miles) at a steady (15-16mph) pace
Please ride single file on the way out of Winchester, until we are off the main thoroughfares out of the city. Admittedly, this can create a long line of cyclists which is just as hard to overtake as cyclists riding two abreast but at least it gives motorists one less thing to complain about and if we leaves gaps every 6-10 bikes then cars can 'leap-frog' when the coast is clear.

VC Venta Wessex League Cyclocross
VC Venta is hosting the 8th Round of the Wessex CX League on 2nd November. Anyone curious about CX is welcome to come and test the course on Saturday 1st November. For anyone wanting to try CX, but a bit nervous, there will be a Novices Race on the day. Last year VC Venta hosted the event as a late entry on the calendar. With the help of some fantastic volunteers the Club was praised for running one of the best events of the season. To go one better and host the best event of the CX season the Club needs your help once again. Click here to see how you can help and contact the organiser - our own Keith Allam email@example.com - to offer your support.
