Although Venta is a cycling club through and through albeit incorporating many different disciplines, we know quite a few of our members also incorporate their cycling in to the world of multi-sport.
Marius Kwint and Simon Stevens are just two of those members and Marius recently sent me a report on the pairs duathlon exploits both at home and in Europe during 2025 where the two tested themselves against some of the best duathletes in their respective age groups. Marius writes,
"Back around the solstice in June, Simon Stevens and I both did the age-group duathlon competitions at the World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, and finished 9th in the standard distance and 10th the sprint distance respectively, out of approximately 50 in our age groups (55-59 and 60-64). The course was hilly and certainly didn't suit me, but it was enjoyable, and the second time since 2019 that we had both done the worlds there.
As well as some key triathlon races, I had also done the British Sprint Duathlon championships back in March, coming a tantalising 4th in my age group in a tactical race at East Fortune motor racing circuit near Edinburgh. More recently, I won the English Sprint Duathlon championships at Thruxton on 5th October by a healthy margin. Then last Sunday, 19th October, both Simon and I ventured four hours north in the gathering deluge for the British and English Standard Distance Duathlon Championships and European Championships Qualifier at Oulton Park circuit near Chester. Involving a sometimes hair-raising 39k bike leg around the rolling technical course with wet leaves, surface water and crosswinds, the race saw Simon finish 6th in his category and an age-group win for me by four minutes over the athlete who had decisively pushed me into fourth back in March. We couldn't stay for the medal ceremony because Simon had a flight to Riyadh for work late that evening from Heathrow, where I dropped him off feeling that we deserved medals for the driving in those conditions too."
