June Strava Segment of the Month

Full Beacon Hill

In the spirit of renewal, for 2025 we will have 10 segments that are new to the VCV Segment of the Month competition. This means that we are resting Old Winchester Hill this year, and have picked Beacon Hill for the Queen Stage.

VCV White Way is a new segment. It shares a start point with other, older Beacon Hill segments but (for safety reasons) finishes at the hill top and not further down the hill at the junction.

One thing remains the same however: double points will be awarded for the Queen Stage.

June Segment

Wind your way out through the lanes of Meonstoke to the start of the climb. The segment starts just after the T-junction with Beacon Hill Lane (confusingly this stretch of road starts and finishes at separate T-junctions, each with a road called Beacon Hill Lane).

Almost immediately you'll turn left, and from there curve around the hillside to the summit. The average grade is 5.8%, but there are bits of 8% and 9% in there.

There's no obvious marker for the finish, but it's right at the crest of the hill. Just keep pushing on until the road is clearly going down.

Segment Safety

  • The White Way is narrow. Be prepared to give way to cars.
  • Please consider running front and rear lights.

Competition Note

Paul Double still holds the KOM for the 'Full Beacon Hill' segment. This might be a tempting additional goal - however if you choose to target it, please be aware it has a downhill finish and ends right at a T-Junction.
